Message from a Soldier: P.F.C. Dwight Rist

Embarkation

This card that has a printed message about coming home from World War II is the only card of its kind in my collection. P.F.C. Dwight Rist mailed this card from the New York Port of Embarkation home to his mother in Scottdale, Pennsylvania. The space where he was able to write his own message says:

“Came home on Queen Mary. Going to Camp Kilmer, N.J. tonight for several days + then to Indiantown Gap for my discharge. Should take from 3-7 days. See you soon.”

Can you imagine how happy his mom was to receive this card?! She finally knew he was home back in the U.S.A. after he sent this.
