My Postcard Sale of the Year

Taking a break from the Halloween posts today. Last weekend I stopped by a local antique store to browse through postcards, which there weren’t any except for a plastic bag full the main employee had in an office. I found about 10 I was interested in, most of which were not in great shape but semi-rare (a hold to light, Dwig pipe dream card, Princeton football player.) He wanted $75 for all of them, which was a little obscene considering their condition. So I narrowed it down to 5 cards- 3 Tuck black Americana cards, a PCK flower girl, and the real photo postcard of the jewelry store shown above- for $30.

I listed the RPPC card, which is of W.W. Harper’s Jewelry Store in Hurlock, Maryland, for $19.99 on eBay.  It stayed at a stagnant $20.49 up until the very end, when it sold for $66.67, so this is my postcard sale of the year LOL. It was mailed in 1905 or 1906, and the message on the front states that the two people on the card are Mr. Harper and sister.

Good for you. It’s hard to buy postcards at antiques stores; it seems like they are often overpriced. But you did really well!
