Camp Hood, Texas

Camp Hood, known today as Fort Hood, is located in Texas and was opened in September of 1942. The postcard above was mailed 9 months later in June of 1943. General John Bell Hood, a Confederate officer during the Civil War, was its namesake. The purpose of this camp was to serve as a Tank Destroyer Tactical and Firing Center. The postcard below perfectly illustrates the Tank Destroyer aspect. This camp probably rings a bell with you, as there was the shooting at Fort Hood in 2009.
