Last week from a dealer at my postcard meeting I purchased 37 postcards that were all mailed from Captain Nelson Taylor to his family back home in 1945. 25 of the cards are a complete French Disney Snow White series, and the other 12 are a complete French Disney “Big Bad Wolf” series, which is from the 1930’s and a combination of The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. One blog post a week will be featuring one of his cards, going in series order, starting with Snow White.
In English, the front of this card says “From the balcony, Snow White throws a rose to Prince Charming.”
The message on the back was to his son Tim, and says “Dearest Tim, You must have had a lot of fun in N.Y. with mother- riding the subway, the escalator, going to Macy’s and Schwartz’s, getting toy telephones and then at dinner going into the hotel kitchen. You’ll be able to help mother more than ever, now. Love, Dad.”
It was postmarked August 19, 1945 with an additional stamp that has A.P.O. 380, which was the 36th General Hospital in Dijon, France and his name. All of the postcards that were mailed (a couple weren’t) have the A.P.O. 380 stamp on them.
The following link is 1940 census data about Nelson Taylor and his family, which I was able to match up because of the address and names of his family members.
