Try Flinging Yarn Out the Window

One of the many old Halloween superstitions is shown on this card, by artist HBG. “On Hallowe’en your ball of yarn from out the window fling, and he who is to be your fate will come to wind the string!” If only this actually worked imagine how happy people would be. But my favorite part of this card is what the sender wrote on the back- “Try it- it might work!” I guess Miss Margaret Piggot in Phillipsburg, New Jersey needed some help! This card was postmarked on October 31, 1910.

P.S.- I also like how the girl’s soulmate looks like he is from a colonial time period.
