My favorite animals are flamingos, because they are pink and sooo cute. They are pink because of the shrimp they eat. Anytime I see flamingo cards they are usually Florida cards. To the left is a flamingo nesting in Florida, postmarked in 1944. The only other flamingo card I have is below, which show flamingos and nests in Hialeah Park, Miami, Florida. The description on the back reads:
“The unique feature of Hialeah Race Course is its great flock of flamingos. These birds were imported from Cuba and South America an in 1939 for the first time, flamingos were raised to maturity in this country. That first season 62 birds were hatched at Hialeah and this year there were almost one hundred. The young birds are white and take on their rich coloring with maturity. Flamingos are fed a mixture of boiled rice, dried shredded shrimp, grains and cod liver oil.” This card was postmarked in 1951.
