Cute Postcard Message- Marshmallow Roast

The front of this postcard features the Ocean City Yacht Club in Ocean City, NJ. The message on the back reads:

“Dearest Anna, Tonight we are going to have a marshmallow roast on the beach. I certainly wish you were here. Lots of love, M.D. Bye”

This card was sent to Miss Anna Herr in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Reading this message got me thinking- when were marshmallows invented? While marshmallow candy has been around since ancient Egypt, they started to be made with a new and improved faster system called the “starch mogul” system in the late 1800’s. So when this card was sent in 1910, they were still a relatively new food.
